A gathering of the ANGEL SIG on Teacher Education.
Theme: The DICE Project: a model for integrating GCE into primary teacher education in Ireland
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of the president of Soka Gakkai International Daisaku Ikeda.
He was the founder of the Soka University and in this role he has widely promoted an educational system for value creation that has nurtured thousands of students worldwide.
Several of the current members of our network, the Academic Network of Global Education and Learning, were educated in the Soka education system, where the idea of global citizenship education is at the core of the educational programme.
ANGEL Chair Doug Bourn reflects: "In my role of director of the Development Education Research Centre here at IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education & Society, I have had the privilege to supervise a number of postgraduate students from Soka University and I have always appreciated their readiness and their commitment toward world peace and global citizenship. Today we mourn the passing of a great intellectual, a great educator, a great man of peace, but his legacy is still alive, and we will continue to collaborate with it."
We will pass on our condolences to his wife, Kaneko, his children and to the numerous SGI members in the UK and worldwide.
